1. What does John Steinbeck say is needed to write a great short story?
John Steinback says that the way he was taught was to write a great short story you have to “write a great short story”. The article states that a good short story has to be simple and heartbreaking. It has to convey something from the writer to the reader. And it’s as simple as that!
2.Tell us about a short story you remember reading. What stands out about the story?
A short story I’ve read would be Hansel and Gretel. Something that stands out about the story is that the two siblings courage to get out of the witches house. I thought the way they did it was very clever.
The box was descended through the Mayo family for hundreds of years by the time great great grandpa Jo Mayo it. This was during a war…between McDonalds and Burger King. So J. Mayo had to flee the dangerous, dangerous streets of southern WAY down border of Mexico, Texas. This was in result of how out of control the war was getting. Fries and burgers were being tossed in to the streets. That was the last straw. So J. Mayo packed up his stuff and his daughter Caitlin a.k.a C. Mayo into the old box. Even though he was not supposed to EVER open the box this was a matter of life and death. The reason for hiding little C. Mayo was because in the times of Mickey D’s vs. BK it was very dangerous for children because the Mickey D’s and BK armys were recruting children to come to there locations and have them eat as much of their food as they could. So J. Mayo definetly did not want this to happen to sweet C. Mayo so they planned to flee northeast to the direction of Indiana. Because of lost information we can not be sure of what happen next in the story but seeing that Mr. Mayo aka G. Mayo has the box today J. Mayo must have lived long enough to pass it down. I hope.
The book the I chose is Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. It’s a fiction book about a boy who finds a beagle that is mistreated. So he has to hide it from is family and the the mean owner. I did not get a chance to read the first five pages but I know it’s going to be good!
Two African hunters are running through the village. One old, one youger. They’re chasing a jaguar to bring home to the hungry wives and children. They spot him, put they’re spears above they’re heads and ATTACK! But suddenly there’s a BANG! All goes dark and they don’t know what to do. But wait, they see a light. And BOOM! Five jaguars come out of no where and ferociously kill them both. As they’re sinking away to Heaven they hear music. It was a very nice lively tune. Are they still alive? Nope! Haha. Their sinking, sinking, sinking…But they still hear music. Then the older man looks over to see the other playing with a set of instruments. But then he gets beat. That’ll teach him. He said he’s sorry even though it didn’t hurt because they’re dead. Duh. They reach the Golden Gate to be greated by The younger man’s father who he had missed so dearly and the older man’s wife who he had been so longing to see again. Even though this story might have been amusing at the end I feel the need to change the tone. So the to men are very happy to rejoin they’re loved ones and they all live once again happily ever after.
My two favorite series are Harry Potter and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I like Harry Potter because of the suspence and I like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants because of the reality. I think that this weblog is a very good idea because first off kids usually like to use the internet better than writing on paper so if the students are on the computer they will be more enthusiastic about writing. Thanks Mr. Mayo!
