But all of them including Bongo lovedgoing to the circus. So one day Bongo had a great idea of going to the circus and inviting ALL of his friends so they could learn to like each other. Reading and Writing is Cool!

Posted by two10 in Uncategorized

I enjoy reading young adult fiction but with some sort of reality to it. For example Gossip Girl and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. My favorite writing assignments are freewrites and persuasive essays.

One person from Colorado I think I will get along with the most is Football_18. I think that just by guessing because they are into sports we would have something in commun and also because I’m pretty sure it’s a guy and I know for a fact that I have an easier time finding guy friends rather then girls. But really either one is fine, this one just caught my eye.

Summary of The Pearl:Chapters 5 and 6

Posted by two10 in Uncategorized

In chapter 5 of The Pearl by John Steinbeck, Kino kills a man as self-defense and thinks he has lost the pearl but Juana finds it. Then they think they need to leave. But the “dark ones” set their house on fire plus the boat has a hole at the bottom so they went to Juan Thomas’ house to hide. Then they leave to go north and Juana asks “You will not give up the pearl?” and he said “The pearl has become my soul, if I give it up I shall lose my soul…”

In chapter six of The Pearl by John Steinbeck, Kino and his wife and child are going north and when they get someplace to rest Kino sees trackers and tells Juana and Coyotito to go ahead up the mountain while he tries to hold them off but she won’t allow it so they set up the mountain until they came to a cave. Then Kino set out to make fake tracks. Then Kino decides to go and attack the trackers in their sleep by attacking the one standing guard and with the rifle first. He tries to creep down to where they are. But then the trackers hear a murmure so Kino had to jump but the tracker who was on guard shot his rifle then Kino stabbed him, took the rifle and shot the rest. Then Kino hears the song of death and sees that Coyotito has been shot and died. They walk back to the town full of grief and Kino throws the pearl back into the ocean.

1. Kino won the lottery, but what was the price he head to pay for such luck? Use at least two examples from the text to support your answer.

The price that Kino had to pay for such luck was  a lot of misfortune. For example, in chapter 5 “the dark ones” burn down their brush house. Also another misfortune is the loss of Kino and Juana’s son Coyotito.

The Pearl. Prediction and Connection on Chapter 3.

Posted by two10 in Uncategorized

Prediction on Chapter 3:

I think in Chapter 3 Kino and his wife are going to see how much the pearl is worth so they can have money if theire son’s infection gets worse.

Connection in Chapter 3:

One connection I can make between The Pearl and the article on Lottery winners is that in the book Kino finds a pearl by luck, that makes him rich just like in the article the people win a lot of money just by chance.  Also in the book the news spreads about the pearl and everyone is soon jealous of Kino. Just like in the article people start to get greedy and don’t care about anything else.

Pearl & Lottery.

Posted by two10 in Uncategorized

In english class today, we read and article titiled 8 lottery winners who lost their money. It was about lottery winners who didn’t choose the right way to spend or give out their money and ended up with either little or no money. In one situation a woman named Evelyn Adams won the lottery twice but since she gave out money to who ever asked she now lives in a trailer. Bradley, who wrote “Sudden Money: Managing a Finacial Windfall” says that “Often they can keep the money and lose the family and friends–or lose the money and leep the family and friends–or even lose the money and lose the family and friends.”
